Felt and Wood Make Nice in Custom ARO Plank

In a landmarked 1903 building near Union Square in Manhattan, Dropbox—the cloud storage company—bucks traditional office norms by feeling more like the local coffee shop and less like the place where dad worked. In a corridor along a bank of conference rooms, a flexible work area features banquette seating with a band of custom CNC cut 100% Wool Felt above. The laminated wallcovering created with two layers of felt, one in a deep charcoal (300 Anthrazit) with a patterned felt layer in a vibrant blue (312 Lagune) above, provides soft texture along with the added benefit of sound softening. Elsewhere in the large multipurpose room, the “anti-office” feeling continues with varied options for work or impromptu meetings along with a custom ARO Plank 1 wall. The wall features acoustic planks in a neutral, natural grey (200 Natur) that alternate with flat sections of walnut wood. Though wood is not a material we’re known for, FilzFelt provided the entire system that shipped in modular sections for a quick and precise installation.
