TWA Hotel

ARO Plank 1 Gets Retro at an Iconic TWA Terminal

At a new hotel located in the renovated TWA Flight Center designed by Eero Saarinen in 1962, the design celebrates the midcentury modern terminal as well as the furnishings, color palettes, music, and even TWA uniforms of the time. In a former baggage claim area, a small ballroom is outfitted with custom ceiling fixtures and an expansive installation of ARO Plank 1. The horizontal band of narrow half-round planks in a saturated red calls to mind the curved forms which Saarinen celebrated in his designs. Plus, this product that looks like it’s all about design boosts sound absorption so events can keep the martinis flowing without worrying about noise stealing the show.
